One of the greatest talents of the modern era and a television celebrity of the highest order, Burnett has recently been regaling her audiences with backstage tales, her partnership with her TV ensemble cast and a career spent making America laugh. The 2013 winner of the Mark Twain Award is best known for her longrunning CBS-TV variety show, “The Carol Burnett Show.” She’s also had success on stage and in film. Burnett discovered acting and comedy in college after which she performed in New York nightclubs.
She had a breakout success on Broadway in the original production of “Once Upon a Mattress,” and made her television debut on “The Garry Moore Show,” for which she won her first Emmy in 1962. She then began an 11-year run as star of “The Carol Burnett Show.” The show won numerous Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.
During and after her variety show, Burnett appeared in many television and film projects. Her film roles include “Pete 'n' Tillie,” (1972); “The Four Seasons,” (1981); “Annie,” (1982); “Noises Off,” (1992); and “Horton Hears a Who!” (2008). On TV, she appeared in other sketch shows and in well-regarded guest roles, including Mad About You, for which she won an Emmy Award.
The County Center has been undergoing a renaissance lately, with the addition of new seating, colors, carpeting, video screens and catering that now provides better food at better prices. This, added to an acoustics upgrade in 2012, has been attracting more premier music, comedy and sporting events.
