This year is especially meaningful because it marks the American Cancer Society’s centennial, commemorating one hundred years of fighting cancer. In the past century, the organization has had a role in every major cancer achievement, according to the Society. “The Cappelli family is extremely grateful to have been selected for such an honor, particularly since it is given in memory of our parents,” said Louis Cappelli, President and CEO of the Cappelli Organization, one of Westchester County’s most prolific real estate developers. “The American Cancer Society has been such an integral part of helping communities throughout the tri-state area. We have been long-time supporters of this worthy cause and are pleased to be in a position to lend our time and effort to bringing even more awareness to cancer research.” The Cappelli Organization is a group of companies founded by patriarch Luca Cappelli, which are well known for the most innovative and recognizable developments in Westchester, including White Plains City Center; Trump Tower White Plains; Trump Plaza New Rochelle; Trump Park Residences and New Roc Cit. Its flagship Renaissance Square development encompasses a 143-room Ritz-Carlton Hotel, two Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester residential towers containing 352 condominium units and 7 Renaissance Square, a 60,000 square feet AAA office building.
Today, Louis Cappelli is President and CEO of the company, as well as chairman of the Louis R. Cappelli Foundation, a funding source designed to assist at-risk youth to reach their full potential. The foundation has awarded over $7.3 million in grants since its inception in 1999. Members of the Cappelli family have been gracious sponsors of the American Cancer Society’s Annual Diamond Luncheon for years, and have helped bring significant awareness to the fight against cancer through their involvement as honorees. In addition, other members of the Cappelli family have taken on other incredible business ventures including health care, construction and asset recovery. Before their passing, Luca and Concetta Cappelli had been Westchester residents since 1958, where they raised their six children: Louis, Barbara, Michael, Gina, Connie and Susan. Luca passed away in February 2011, and his wife Concetta passed away in August 2012. The family has been renowned for their hard work, passion for life, and generous hearts, which has been an inspiration to many. “We were thrilled to honor the entire Cappelli family, in memory of the late Concetta and Luca Cappelli, during our gala this year,” said Michelle D’Urso, Regional Vice President. “The members of this influential family received the Leadership Award for their distinguished civic and corporate influence on the local community.”
