Schlanger works with CLARO, legal advice project for unrepresented consumers. CLARO started in 2012, and is operated by Schlanger and other volunteer attorneys. CLARO helps people in Westchester with too much income to qualify for federally-funded legal services but too little income to hire a private attorney. He is also an attorney for Schlanger and Schlanger.

The Rotary award honors people who encourage and foster the ideal of service and  service above self.

Chairman Mike Baker said Schlanger was a deserving choice because of his commitment to ethics and admiration among his peers.

CLARO is a weekly clinic where unrepresented litigants can sit and speak to a lawyer, get help in drafting documents, and get advice on how to proceed.
