Hackers Exploit Bank Workers To Get Valuable Information

Banks fearful from a rash of recent hacking attacks are pouring billions of dollars into attempting to ward off the digital crooks, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The largest threats reportedly may be inside the banks themselves, where unknowingly employees reveal valuable information to the crooks or provide "digital clues" that enable a breach, according to the article.

In an attempt to defend against this, banks are prohibiting staff from utilizing portable devices, like USB drives, advising them to use caution in posting on social media and even inhibiting workers from setting up "out-of-office" responses in their e-mails, the story said.

Some banks are giving staff a test to see if they unwittingly leave themselves vulnerable to hacking through "spear-phishing" attempts, whereby crooks get recipients to click on links with malware that exposes passwords, etc. to hackers, according to the article.
