Astorino Touts Westchester As 'A Smart Spot For Business'

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino welcomed representatives of small businesses from around the tristate area at an event in Tarrytown earlier this month.

The breakfast, held at the DoubleTree hotel, was co-sponsored by radio station WCBS and the Westchester County Office of Economic Development.

"We like to think of Westchester as New York's intellectual capital, because of our highly educated workforce," the county executive said in his welcoming remarks.

Astorino praised Westchester as “a smart spot for business,” drawing attention to its “attractively priced office space, a high quality of life and convenient access to Manhattan and other destinations.”

WCBS business reporter Joe Connolly, who hosted the event, led a discussion of the event's theme, "Building big brands," with guest panelists Stew Leonard Jr., president and CEO of Stew Leonard's; Cindi Bigelow, president and CEO of Bigelow Tea Co.; and Mitchell Modell, CEO of Modell's Sporting Goods.

Tips that the panelists offered included innovative ways of doing business; ways to grow businesses in a downturned economy; and ways of looking for new business without breaking the bank.
