Man Dies After Rescuing Grandchildren In Area House Fire, Police Say An area grandfather died after saving his two grandchildren from a fire that destroyed a Hudson Valley home. The fire broke out in Putnam County around 10 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, at a home on Scarsdale Road in Lake Carmel, a hamlet in the town of Kent. Arriving firefighters and police found two small children outside the burning building, said the Kent Police Department. First responders in Putnam County from the Mahopac and Mahopac Falls Fire Department and Carmel Police Department were dispatched to Dixon Lake at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28 in Mahopac, where there was a report of an overturned boat. It happened just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 in Mahopac on Nicole Way.
