The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group received SWAT Team Certification, making it one of just 15 teams in the state to earn such an accreditation. The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services determined that the application submitted by the Sheriff’s Office met all requirements set forth by the NYS Municipal Police Training Council (MPTC) and awarded them the honor. Court Fee Phone Scam Sparks Warning Officials are warning residents about a phone scam sweeping the area in which the caller claims to a representative of the Sheriff's Office civil division and demands payment for a legal matter. Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois said a scam of that type was operating recently in Cayuga County, where the caller said they were from the civil division and that the resident must go purchase a pre-paid Visa card and pay the money owed or face legal trouble.
