Nor'easter: State Of Emergency Issued For These NY Counties
A State of Emergency has been declared by Gov. Kathy Hochul for parts of New York as the first nor’easter of 2022 rapidly approaches. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that parts of downstate New York that are expected to get hit the hardest have been placed under the state of emergency as upwards of 16 inches of snow are expected in some parts of the state. A major Nor'easter has arrived in the region, ushering the start of February with heavy snow, blizzard-like conditions, and dangerous winds that could cause power outages. Most of the region will see 12 to 18 inches of snow with locally higher amounts of 18 to 24 hours in some parts of the New York metro area and throughout New England. Brand-New Snowfall Projections Released For Powerful Nor'easter With Updated Timing For Storm
One of the most potent snowstorms in several years is set to slam the area with the brand-new models calling for a foot or more of accumulation for most of the region and wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour that could cause power outages. A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 through 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17. Storm Watch: Here's When Snowfall Will Arrive, End In Round 2 Of Storm
Powered by a strong band of snow, a round of moderate to heavy snowfall will arrive in the afternoon and continue through the evening in areas farther inland on Monday, Dec. 2. There have been reports just past noontime of snowfall moving west to east, but not sticking to surfaces where the temperature is above freezing. Nearly the entire region should see snowfall at times between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. with generally about 1 to 2 inches of accumulation expected during that time frame. Get set for Round Two. Powered by a heavy band of snow, another round of moderate to heavy snowfall is expected later in the afternoon into the evening on Monday, Dec. 2. Most of the snow will fall after dark. Areas south of I-287 and the Merritt Parkway, including New York City, will see between 3 and 4 inches of accumulation.
