NY's First Offshore Wind Farm Marks Major Construction Milestone
Efforts to power tens of thousands of New York homes using the state’s first offshore wind farm have marked a major construction milestone. The South Fork Wind farm, located approximately 35 miles off the coast of Long Island, achieved its “steel in the water” milestone with the installation of the project’s first monopile foundation, Gov. Bigger terminals, nicer concession areas, and improved security screening are just some of the modernization projects that will benefit from the $230 million awarded to nine airports across New York. Construction on a $530 million project to improve energy transmission between Dutchess County and Rensselaer County has begun. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Wednesday, March 3 that the upgrade project, which is part of a larger $2 billion in transmission investments developed to bring clean energy to areas that require more power, has started.
