The incident unfolded Friday, June 9, in Washington State’s Olympic National Park, in Lake Crescent, according to the National Park Service. The lake is approximately 100 miles northwest of Seattle. Saratoga County native Jimmy Thomas, age 61, of Ballston Spa, is currently kayaking from the town of Glenville all the way to Key West, Florida. He then plans to bicycle back to upstate New York. Kayaker From Hudson Valley Mourned After Death During Nor'easter Memorial services have been scheduled to honor the life of a Westchester County man who died after a powerful Nor'easter rolled in while he was kayaking on the Long Island Sound. Laurence Broderick, age 45, of Scarsdale, was reported overdue by his family on Tuesday, Oct. 26, after he left Hempstead en route to Mamamronek in his kayak at about 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, authorities reported.  He was found unresponsive by the US Coast Guard on Tuesday afternoon, and he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Kayaker Rescued After Vessel Capsizes In Ulster County Lake A kayaker who could not swim and had overturned his vessel was rescued by first responders in the area. The incident took place around noon on Wednesday, Aug. 4 Ulster County in the Town of Lloyd. Police received a 911 call for the capsized kayaker on Chodikee Lake near the boat launch, said Lloyd PD Chief James Janso.
