Ahead of an upcoming storm system expected to last several nights, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is urging residents across the state to prepare for snow, heavy rains, power outages, and flooding.
According to the latest predictions, the storm is expected to arrive in the Hudson Valley, Capital Region, and Long Island on Tuesday, April 2, and continue through Thursday night, April 4, bringing poor travel conditions and likely power outages along with it, Hochul announced.

As a powerful Nor'easter threatens to dump inches of snow and a wintry mix on much of New York State, Gov. Kathy Hochul is urging residents to prepare for power outages and travel hazards posed by the white stuff.
According to Hochul, the large coastal weather system is predicted to hit New York late Saturday, Jan. 6, and continue into Sunday, Jan. 7, bringing anywhere from 3 to 12 inches of snow to parts of the Hudson Valley, Capital Region, and Central New York, and a mix of snow and rain to New York City and Long Island.

Supermarket chain ShopRite is closing five stores in New York.
The closures, scheduled for early December, are all in the Capital Region, according to a report by Winsight Grocery Business: Albany, Colonie, Niskayuna, Slingerlands, and North Greenbush.
The closures are due to underperforming sales, the report said.
ShopRite, which launched in the mid-1940s, has stores in six states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

Ex-School Board Member In Region Admits Role In Marijuana Trafficking, Money Laundering Ring
A 71-year-old former school board member in the region has admitted to taking part in a massive marijuana trafficking and money laundering ring that allegedly involved over a dozen New Yorkers and spanned across the country.
Rensselaer County resident Rosemary Coles, of Troy, appeared in Albany federal court on Tuesday, July 25, where she pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds) or more of marijuana and THC.

An attempted child rapist avoided lockup after driving hundreds of miles to the region to have sex with who he thought was an underage teen, authorities said.

These Regions In NY Have Been 'Infested' By This Invasive Insect, Schumer Says
Parts of New York that have been infested this year with an invasive insect that puts crops at risk, US Sen. Chuck Schumer announced.
Schumer said in an announcement on Sunday, Aug. 14, that nearly every region in upstate New York has seen the invasive spotted lanternfly, and the insect could cost the state millions of dollars if it is not contained.

Woman Busted Driving Drunk On Just Rims In Area, Police Say
A woman from the Capital Region was drunk and driving on just rims before she was stopped by troopers, New York State Police said.
A trooper stopped Elizabeth Sheyon, age 41, of Troy, at around 3 a.m. Saturday, May 7, after seeing sparks coming from her car as she drove south on I-87 in Clifton Park, police said.
When the trooper approached the vehicle, they realized it did not have any tires on the passenger side and was being driven on just the rims, police said.
The trooper reported smelling alcohol and said that Sheyon showed obvious signs of impairment.
