Lirr Train Hits Car, Kills Person In Eastport

One person was killed when a car was hit by a Long Island Railroad train.

The crash took place in Suffolk County around 6:30 p.m., on Monday, May 8 in Eastport.

According to MTA officials, the 4:30 p.m. train from Hunterspoint Avenue to Montauk struck the car on the tracks at the South Bay Avenue crossing.

One person in the vehicle was killed, the MTA said.

Neither the gender nor identity of the person has been released.

The LIRR secured substitute bus service while the Montauk Branch was suspended in both directions east of Patchogue. Service was restored at approximately 8:30 p.m. 

Information regarding other occupants or the name of the person killed was not available.

The incident is being investigated by the MTA Police.
