Long Island Man Starves Dog To Death, Attempts To Adopt Another: DA A Long Island man was indicted after he allegedly starved a dog to death, authorities announced. On Thursday, Oct. 26, 70-year-old Kevin Barnett was arraigned on charges including torturing the dog, a mixed breed named Jessica, according to the Nassau County District Attorney. Barnett brought Jessica to the West Hempstead Animal Hospital on Saturday, July 1 asking for the dog to be cremated. Long Island Man Arrested After Kicking, Killing Dog, Police Say A Long Island man has been arrested for allegedly kicking and killing a dog that was being walked by its owner. Peter Galantino, 58, of Hempstead, was arrested on Tuesday, March 24, for the incident that took place on Saturday, March 14, in Hempstead, said the Nassau County Police. According to detectives, a man and a woman were walking their dogs in the vicinity of St. Pauls Place and Stevens Avenue when they were approached by Galantino.
