Man Charged In Hit-Run Death Of Kings Park Teacher/Coach Was High On Fentanyl, DA Says A Mattituck man has pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with allegedly hitting and killing a popular Kings Park teacher and coach who was jogging in St. James while he was driving high. Smithtown resident Michael McDermott, 37, who taught at Kings Park High School, was jogging in the southbound shoulder of Lake Avenue, north of Oak Street when he was struck by a Nissan at approximately 12:20 p.m. on July 14, police said.
