Jamel Turner, 25, of Bellport, reportedly refused to leave his jail cell on Tuesday, Aug. 6, when he was scheduled to be sentenced in Central Islip federal court. Turner has been seeking to file a motion to withdraw his guilty plea, which he submitted earlier this year. Employee Critically Injured After Being Struck By Work Vehicle In Ridge An employee at a fencing company on Long Island was critically injured after being struck by a work truck. The accident happened on Saturday, July 13 in Ridge. Efran Veliz-Alverado was in a work vehicle at RFC Residential Fences Corp., located at 1775 Middle Country Road, and began backing the vehicle into a parking spot when Mark Craparo walked into the yard and was struck by the truck at 10:45 a.m., Suffolk County Police said.
