Search Team Finds Missing Swimmer Dead In Southampton Pond, Police Say
The body of a man who went missing while swimming in a Long Island pond has been recovered by search teams.
The swimmer, identified as Vidal Martinez-Romero, age 48, of Brooklyn, was reported missing around 7:50 p.m., Saturday, July 17, when the Southampton Town Police received a report of a man that appeared to be in distress while swimming in Big Fresh Pond in the vicinity of Elliston Park.
The caller reported that the man went under the water and did not resurface, said Sgt. Michael Walsh.

Woman Dies, 13-Year-Old Girl Rescued In Southampton Boating Accident
A 65-year-old woman died after she and a 13-year-old girl fell off a tube being pulled by a boat in Southampton, police said.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Red Cedar Point near Hubbard County Park, the Southampton Town Police Department said.
The young girl was pulled back onto the boat, but the older woman was unable to get back into the boat, possibly may have suffered a medical condition and became unconscious, police said.
