Pilot Hospitalized After Private Plane Crashes In Suffolk County A pilot was hospitalized after a small plane crashed on Long Island. It happened just after 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2 in Riverhead in the area of 2995 Sound Ave. Responding officers found a small private aircraft was found flipped over with the pilot sustaining minor injuries, the Riverhead Police Department said.  The pilot was making a planned landing on the private airstrip when the plane flipped over during its landing, the department said.  The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified.   The pilot was t…

Plane Lands At Long Island MacArthur Airport After Landing Gear Issue A scary scene nearly unfolded at Long Island MacArthur Airport as a pilot dealing with malfunctioning landing gear was forced to make a touchy landing. No injuries were reported when a twin-engine plane being piloted over a golf course lost its main landing gear as it approached the Ronkonkoma airport before landing on its belly at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said. The pilot was able to safely navigate the plane to MacArthur, where they were met by fire trucks and ambulances at the scene as a precaution. All parties landed safely.…
