Fatal Crash: Man Struck By SUV On Busy Long Island Roadway One person was killed in an overnight crash on a busy Long Island roadway. It happened around 7:25 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 in East Meadow. According to Nassau County Police detectives, a 79-year-old man was crossing the roadway in front of 2520 Hempstead Turnpike, when he was struck by a 2017 Lincoln SUV being operated by a 78-year-old man. As a result of the collision, the pedestrian suffered severe trauma and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead by a staff physician. His name has not yet been released. 78-Year-Old Man Assaulted, Robbed On Quiet Long Island Street, Police Say A 78-year-old man was sucker-punched and robbed by two men while walking on a quiet Long Island street over the weekend, police said. Detectives from the Nassau County Police Department are investigating a robbery that took place at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 in Baldwin. Police said that the man was walking on Webster Street when he was approached from behind by two men. It is alleged that one punched him in the left eye, causing swelling, pain and bruising, while the second went into his pocket and removed an undisclosed amount of money.
