A man stole an unlocked car with a child inside from a parking lot on Long Island, police said.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department First Squad are investigating an incident when the man stole the 2007 Acura with an 8-year-old girl inside in Deer Park.

Police said a man left the car unlocked with his daughter inside when he went into 7-Eleven on Bay Shore Road at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27.

While the victim was inside, a man pulled up in a red van, looked around and entered the Acura with the child still inside. The entire incident was captured on surveillance cameras in the area. (See above.)

According to police, shortly thereafter, the suspect dropped the child off in the parking lot of West Slip Bagels on Hunter Avenue and proceeded to flee in the stolen Acura.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
