Suffolk County Police officers responded to a stretch of Deer Park Avenue in Babylon on Wednesday, June 30, where there were reports of multiple burglaries that occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. that night.
While investigating the burglaries, police said that they spotted a suspect, later identified as New York City resident Daniel Bertini, acting suspiciously while walking along Deer Park Avenue at approximately 5:10 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
Officers proceeded to interview Bertini, who was allegedly in possession of burglar’s tools and drugs when he was stopped.
It is alleged that Bertini burglarized NoMar Markets on Deer Park Avenue, First National Bank of Long Island on Deer Park Avenue, and Tricia’’s Cafe on East Main Street. Bertini also allegedly attempted to break into the Lucky Barber Shop on Railroad Avenue.
Bertini, 44, was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, attempted burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was held overnight and scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday, July 1.
