A suspect who allegedly stole a woman’s purse on Long Island is at large, police said.

Detectives from the Nassau County Police Department’s First Squad are attempting to locate the man who's accused of robbing a 71-year-old woman on Waverly place in Uniondale.

According to police, at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, the woman was walking eastbound on Waverly Place when she was approached by an unknown African American.

The man allegedly grabbed her purse after a brief struggle and entered a white older-model SUV, which sped off northbound on Maple Avenue.

The woman was not injured in the struggle.

Police said the suspect is described as a 6-foot African American man with a thin build.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing black sweatpants and a black hooded sweatshirt. No other information was released by investigators.

The investigation into the purse snatching is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the robbery has been asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-220-TIPS.
