Two groups of people who previously had trouble with one another during multiple interactions met in front of 7-Eleven on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, when the altercation broke out, Nassau County Police investigators said.
The two groups exchanged verbal threats, putting one group in fear for their safety, police said. They proceeded to leave the 7-Eleven and reported the incident to Nassau County Police, while also informing them that an item had been stolen from them earlier in the day.
The investigation into the incident led to the arrest of five suspects, who were located near the intersection of Nevada Street and North Broadway in Bethpage, where they were taken into custody without incident.
Those charged include:
- Raymond Duarte, age 18, of Levittown;
- Timothy Brown, age 20, of Manhattan;
- Safwan Khan, age 18, of New Hyde Park;
- Two male juveniles whose identities were not released.
All five men were charged with second-degree robbery, and Brown was also charged with third-degree criminal mischief. Each is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, July 13.
