Juan Bautista Miguitama-Aguilar, age 67, died on the night of Saturday, Feb. 3 in Bay Shore after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle, according to Suffolk County Police.

He was only three minutes away from his home.

Now, his family friends are hoping to raise enough money to help his loved ones say goodbye.

“[Juan was] also a husband, father, brother, and son,” Scarleth Villavicencio, a friend of Juan’s, wrote in a GoFundMe post. He was remembered as a loving, giving, hard-working, and respectful man.

“We all feel a deep sadness, especially when it comes to him leaving three children behind who will have to grow up without a father.”

According to Villavicencio, Juan was from Ecuador but lived and worked in Bay Shore to support his wife and kids, who still live in South America.

“They wish to see him for one last time and bury him in his home country of Ecuador,” Villavicencio wrote, “We are looking for any bit of donation, to help his loved ones cover funeral and transportation costs.”

The fundraiser has a goal of $20,000.
