Deputy Saves Suicidal Man From Jumping Off Bear Mountain Bridge A quick-thinking Putnam County Sheriff's deputy was able to talk a man threatening to kill himself by jumping from the side of Bear Mountain Bridge out of ending his life. The dramatic incident took place around 3:56 p.m., Sunday, July 14, when sheriff’s deputies, along with members of other emergency service agencies, responded to the bridge for a report of the man threatening to jump, said the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. Fallen Trees Force Major Route 9 Closure In Westchester Wind damaged trees falling across Route 9 has necessitated a major north-south road closing late Monday afternoon, Feb. 25. As of just before 4:30 p.m., Route 9 is closed from the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery’s main entrance to the Phelps Memorial Hospital entrance. The closing is for an estimated four hours to enable tree crews and local DPW workers to inspect additional trees and to clear the current damage, Briarcliff Manor Village Manager Philip E. Bernice Feldman, 94, Briarcliff Native Bernice K. Feldman, a resident of Briarcliff Manor for more than 50 years, died on Jan. 6 in Texas. She was 94. A graduate of Hunter College, Columbia University and New York University, Dr. Feldman specialized in speech pathology and rehabilitation, serving as a speech therapist, pathologist and teacher at numerous health and educational institutions, including the Dobbs Ferry School System, Lehman College, the College of New Rochelle, Mercy College, Westchester Community College, Phelps Memorial Hospital and the Mount St. Ursula Speech Center.  She was a past president of the Westchester …
