Halloween Police Details Result In 16.5K Tickets Statewide: Here's A Breakdown New York State Police troopers dished out nearly double the number of tickets during a special Halloween enforcement detail. Troopers issued 16,690 tickets statewide during the enforcement campaign, up from 9,057 tickets last year. The detail ran from Saturday, Oct. 26, and lasted through Nov. 1. “Our top priority is the safety of everyone on our roads – our goal is not to spoil anyone’s fun on Halloween,” Terri Egan, the Executive Commissioner of the DMV said before the detail began. Dr. Mark Papish, associate medical director of Emergency Medicine at MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), shared strategies to minimize risk.  First, remember that one-third of Halloween injuries involve lacerations from pumpkin-carving. “Using a children’s pumpkin-carving knife that is serrated, but not sharp, can mitigate this risk,” said Papish. “You can also have young children paint the pumpkin instead.” Costumes should also be well thought out. …
