Although a federal judge in Florida voided a nationwide mask mandate for all public transportation hubs, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that in the "short term,” facial coverings will still be required in certain settings in New York. Bus Carrying Inmates Becomes Engulfed In Flames In Fishkill
Screams filled the air as a bus carrying prisoners between correction facilities caught fire while traveling in the area. The crash took place around 7:45 p.m., Friday, Aug. 27 in Dutchess County on Route 9D by the overpass in Fishkill, said the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. The bus stopped and was safely evacuated, the department said. Nearly two dozen prisoners and corrections officers were onboard at the time of the fire. Female Correction Officer Injured After Being Choked By Fishkill Correctional Facility Inmate
A female correction officer was injured after a 54-year-old male inmate at Fishkill Correctional Facility allegedly charged at her and choked her. The officer, who was assigned to the mess hall, observed an inmate leave with bulges in his front pockets and went to confront him on Thursday, Feb. 7 around 9:30 a.m., authorities said. The inmate then removed two packaged food items and threw them at the officer. He then charged her and put her in a chokehold, causing her to black out.
