Covid-19: Largest Single-Day Number Of Deaths Reported In NY As Statewide Total Hits 5,489 New York saw the largest number of deaths related to novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in a single day as the death toll statewide hit 5,489. There were 731 new COVID-19-related deaths, though the number of cases may be plateauing, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during his daily news briefing on Tuesday, April  7 in Albany. The evidence that the number of cases may be stabilizing is based on a decline in hospitalization rates.
