Dutchess County Schools May See Boost In State Aid

DUTCHESS COUNTY -- Dutchess County school district officials may be getting some help with their own budgets if Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposed $145 billion state budget moves forward with the promised 4.3 percent increase in state aid for schools, the Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting.

The 16 Dutchess County school districts would see an increase ranging from 2 percent to 5.5 percent from the state under this 2016-17 spending plan for the state. The state's fiscal year starts April 1, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

Wappingers, the county's largest school district, would get a 3.6 percent increase in operating support aid under from the state if Cuomo's budget is approved. Total state aid for schools would grow to $24.2 billion, a $991 million increase, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
