DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two City of Poughkeepsie men have been charged with the murder of a city man after police received reports of a person being tied up and beaten.
The murdered man was found around 1:11 a.m. Monday when responding City of Poughkeepsie police officers found an unidentified man bound and dead in a first-floor apartment at 48 Marshall St., said Det. Lt. Matt Clark.
When officers arrived they nabbed a man leaving the apartment identified as David Perry, 49, as another man fled out the window, he added.
Perry told officers that the two men had tied up the man and attempted to rob him, but that during a struggle, the man died, Clark said.
The man who fled out the window was identified as 19-year-old Daniel Barletta. Police were able to track him to New York City where he was apprehended by the City of Poughkeepsie Police with the help of the NYPD, Clark added.
Both men are being charged with second-degree murder and are being held pending their arraignment.
During the investigation, the department was assisted by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
