Poughkeepsie Man Nabbed For Felony DWI On Route 44/55

A Poughkeepsie man is behind bars after being stopped for speeding on Route 44/55 in the town of Lloyd and was found to be driving while drunk, according to the Ulster County Sheriff's Department.

Gurtaj S. Garcha, 32, was charged after being stopped around 7:30 p.m. Monday for speeding, with the felonies of aggravated DWI and driving with a blood alcohol content in excess of 0.18 percent, sheriff officials said.

During the stop, a further investigation revealed Garcha had at least one prior DWI conviction in the past 10 years, which was the basis for the felony charge.

He was arraigned in the Town of Rosendale Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secured bond.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by police from the towns of Plattekill and Lloyd.
