A late-night motorcycle crash left an area man with serious injuries after he drove into a rock embankment.

A 29-year-old Ulster County resident was riding on Van Wagner Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, when he failed to negotiate a turn on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, forcing him off the road and into the embankment on the side of the road.

The driver, a resident of Kingston, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not immediately available on Thursday, Aug. 13.

Police said that the crash forced the closure of Van Wagner Road for several hours as detectives investigated. The roadway was reopened at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident has been asked to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit by calling (845) 485-3680.
