The county believes this position may be the first of its kind in the state.

The position is designed to be an advocate for those with special needs, along with monitoring the various departments that aid them, like the departments of Behavioral and Community Health; Community and Family Services; the Office for the Aging; and the Public Works Department.

“Dutchess County government and community agencies offer a wealth of service for special needs families, but it is not always easy to understand how to access these services and navigate the various processes and regulations,” Molinaro said in a statement.

The position will be filled by "someone who will understand the challenges that special needs families face and will seek to remove barriers that can impede an individual’s quest for independence and success in life," Molinaro continued.

Those interested in the position can read the requirements here on the Dutchess County website, and submit a resume and a letter of interest by April 1 by mail to the Dutchess County Department of Human Resources, 22 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or by email to dcpersonnel@dutchessny.gov.
