Elida G. Almonte, 41, of Beacon, is due in Poughkeepsie court Jan. 26 to face third-degree grand larceny and third-degree welfare fraud charges, sheriff's police said.

She was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 12, after an investigation by Dutchess County Sheriff's detectives and officials with the Dutchess County Community and Family Services Department.

Police said she took $34,748 in daycare assistance between January 2011 and August 2014 by hiding the fact that there was another source of income for her family. That other source of income would have made the family ineligible for daycare assistance, sheriff's police said.

She was processed and arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court, then released with the promise to appear in court to answer the charges, police said.
