An investigation by the department's Traffic Enforcement Unit found that Davis was traveling westbound in a 2006 Volkswagon at 1:50 p.m. when he lost control and hit a  2013 Nissan Pathfinder, operated by a 68-year-old male, with a 68-year-old female passenger, both from Millbrook, according to Capt. Kenneth Roman.

Davis was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The operator and passenger of the Nissan were transported to Vassar Brothers Hospital, where they were being treated for non-life threatening injuries, Roman said.

A section of Route 44 was closed for nearly six hours during the accident reconstruction. The police department was assisted by the Arlington Fire District and Mobil Life Ambulance.
