Poughkeepsie Councilman J. Tracy Hermann died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on Thursday. He was 52.
In a statement on the city's website, city Council Chairman Chris Petsas said Hermann was the "true embodiment of public service."
"His love for this city was unparalleled and was the driving force behind all he did for Poughkeepsie," Petsas said.
Hermann, who represented Poughkeepsie's 8th Ward since 2014, is survived by his husband, Matt, and a daughter, Roxy, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
