Ellen G. (Bluestone) Sherman, 82, Poughkeepsie Resident

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Poughkeepsie resident Ellen G. (Bluestone) Sherman died Tuesday, Jan. 12. She was 82.

She was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Brooklyn, to Edward S. Bluestone and Susan Beatrice (Washor) Bluestone. 

She was a lifelong resident of Brooklyn before moving to Poughkeepsie in 2007. She attended Erasmus Hall High School and Brooklyn College and City College of New York. She worked at Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus where she made devoted friends. She enjoyed reading, walking, crossword puzzles, poetry, seeing Broadway shows and playing Scrabble.

She married Benjamin Sherman in 1956. 

She is survived by her son, Eric (Dennis Hillerud) of Montclair, N.J.; her daughter, Marla (Donald Schwoerer); two grandchildren, Jonathan and Elizabeth of Poughkeepsie; and her brother, Ed (Armand) Bluestone and his wife, Delilah, of Houston, Texas.

Her husband died in 1985.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 24, from 2-3 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. in the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.
