Dorothy R. Dore, 84, Longtime Hopewell Junction Teacher

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N. Y. -- Dorothy R. Dore, Hopewell Junction resisdent and retired teacher so well known for greeting students each morning that the entrance to her former school was named for her, died Jan. 7. She was 84.

Dore, formerly of Woodhaven, taught for 39 years at Van Wyck Junior High School in Wappingers Falls. After her retirement last June, the entrance was renamed "The Dore Greeting Center."

Born Jan. 14, 1931, she was the daughter of Charles and Madeline Wray Lane. On March 25, 1951 at Our Lady of Grace Church in Queens, Dorothy married John K. Dore, who predeceased her on July 24, 1992.

She is survived by her sons, John Dore of Montreal, Quebec and Richard Dore of Poughkeepsie; her daughters and their husbands, Patricia and William Lynch of Hopewell Junction, Maureen and Rod Duncan of Poughkeepsie, and Kathleen and Mark Santosuosso of Hopewell Junction. 

She's also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa, Lauren, Megan, Heather, Billy, Kerrianne, Colleen, Deidre, Kevin, Thomas, Michael and John; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ryleigh, Presley, Cole, Dustin, Casey, Jackson, Hayden, Mason, Brynn and Callie.

Also, she leaves behind her siblings, Marilyn Hurley and Charles Lane; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass is planned for 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
