Walkway Over Hudson Will Suspend Elevator Service

Those looking to start the New Year off right by joining the annual First Day Hike at the Walkway Over the Hudson should take note that elevator service at the bridge will be suspended on Jan. 1 for the winter months.

According to the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation elevator service will be suspended until April 1. The walkway will be open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset, they added.

The First Day Hike, for walkers, cyclists, runners, skaters, and pets on a leash, begins at 2 p.m. at either the West or East Entrances to the walkway.

  • East Entrance - 61 Parker Ave. Poughkeepsie
  • West Entrance - 87 Haviland Road, Highland

All participants will be entered into a raffle with a chance to win items such as annual memberships to the walkway, walkway apparel, tickets to our Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular Celebration. The raffle will be held at the Walkway's Center Overlook at 2:30 p.m. - once both groups (east and west sides) arrive.
