Jeff Kosmacher, director of media relations and public affairs at the college, said sharpshooters were called in to hunt the animals as a population control measure, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Before the school began the cull in 2010, the deer apparently were eating all the saplings on the campus, limiting the land's natural growth, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The college's efforts are likely to be completed by Jan. 24, according the Poughkeepsie Journal.
