DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - A registered "predicate" sex offender convicted of having sexual contact with a teenager has changed addresses in Dutchess County.
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Tuesday to Dutchess County residents regarding the residency of 46-year-old John McCarthy, who has moved from Ulster County to an apartment on Main Street in Poughkeepsie.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned McCarthy as a Level 2 threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense." He has also been designated as a predicate sex offender.
According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, McCarthy was arrested by the Lloyd Town Police Department for sexual misconduct after having sexual intercourse and contact with a 19-year-old in 2013. He was convicted the following June and sentenced to six years probation and a $705 fine. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Poughkeepsie City Police Department.
