NYSEG reported late Thursday afternoon approximately 8,000 customers without power in its Brewster Division, which includes parts of Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties, as a result of several rounds of lightning, severe wind and heavy rain beginning last evening.

“Our local crews and support personnel have been working since the outset and we are continuing to bring in additional resources – including line and tree crews – from across the state,” said Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG. “Our commitment to our customers who are without power is to restore service safely and as quickly as possible.”

As NYSEG continues to respond to downed wires incidents to ensure public safety, the company expects to have 90% of the original storm-related outages restored by 1 p.m. Friday.
