Minimum Wage Increase Tops Issues As Clock Ticks On State Budget

Issues such as school aid and transportation funding are among the many obstacles the state faces in getting its $145 billion budget passed on time this year, according to a report by The Poughkeepsie Journal.

But the biggest hurdle may be Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s fight to raise the state minimum wage to $15 an hour, The Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

The governors and legislators would have to reach a deal by tonight, Monday, March 28, in order for the budget to be approved by Thursday, March 31, The Poughkeepsie Journal article said.

The fiscal year starts Friday, April 1.
