Original report:

A 20-year-old man whose body was pulled from the Hudson River in Northwest Dutchess Saturday morning has been identified as a former star high school baseball player at Arlington High School.

Evin Kleinganz apparently drowned after his canoe capsized near Norrie Point Friday night, according to authorities.

Kleinganz, a Poughkeepsie resident, earned a spot on the Division II baseball team at the College of Saint Rose in Albany as a freshman in 2016. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Kleinganz was a right-handed pitcher who was majoring in forensic psychology at Saint Rose before enrolling at Dutchess County Community College, where he was majoring in criminal justice/law enforcement administration.

Two other people aboard the canoe with Kleinganz were able to make it to land safely after the canoe capsized at around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
