Dutchess Developer Faces Prison Time In Fraud Case

HIGHLAND, N.Y. – A Hopewell Junction developer is facing several years behind bars after he pleaded guilty in a plot to rip off lenders, according to a report in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Michael Barnett, the former owner of Vineyard Commons (pictured), a luxury development in the Ulster County hamlet of Highland, has pleaded guilty in a scheme to rip off lenders and faces prison time and massive fines.

Michael Barnett, the former owner of Vineyard Commons, an upscale residential development in Highland, a hamlet in Ulster County, also pleaded guilty to lying to federal authorities, the Poughkeepsie Journal story said.

Barnett could get up to five years in prison, pay more than $1 million in restitution and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.
