Dutchess County Veterans Services Office Opens at Castle Point

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Local veterans will now be able to meet with counselors at the VA’s Castle Point campus, Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro announced Friday.

The Dutchess County Division of Veterans Services will be offering onsite counseling at the Veterans Affairs Hudson Valley Health Care Systems' Castle Point campus in Wappingers Falls starting next week.

The county’s Division of Veterans Services has opened an office at the Wappingers Falls facility where counselors will meet with veterans on the first and third Thursday of each month, starting next week, Molinaro said.

The goal, he added, is to ensure that veterans and their families have access to all the benefits available.

Molinaro said that the division “rendered a total of 21,642 services” to veterans last year alone.

Those services include replacing military records, applying for medals, and assisting vets and their families with filing claims for survivor’s and burial benefits.

Dutchess appreciates the sacrifices made by its veterans, said the division’s director, Nelson Eddy Rivera, USN (Ret).

Having counselors available at Castle Point allows the office “to come directly to veterans who need our services, making it easier for them to access the benefits they have earned,” he said.

County Legislator Marc Meg Caplan, medical director at Castle Point, said the new office “presents a one-stop shopping opportunity for veterans should they be attending appointments or visiting with other representatives already on site.”

Veterans can make an appointment with a counselor by contacting Dutchess County Veterans Services by calling (845) 486-2060, emailing veterans@dutchessny.gov.
