Driver Charged After Large Gravel, Stone Fall From Truck, Causing Route 22 Closure, Police Say

A driver is facing multiple charges after police say a significant amount of large gravel and crushed stone fell from his dump truck, leading to the closure of a stretch of Route 22.

The incident caused the closure of the southbound lanes from the Citgo station at McDougal Drive in North White Plains to the Townhouse Diner on Castle Heights Place in White Plains for about an hour-and-a-half starting around 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26.

After North Castle police officers and state Department of Transportation workers combined to clear the debris, one lane reopened shortly after 6 a.m. and both lanes just after 8 a.m. with heavy delays and hazardous conditions for both motorists and pedestrians throughout the morning commute.

North Castle Police say a subsequent investigation revealed 54-year-old Warren P. Ebert, operating a 1997 red-and-green Ford dump truck owned by Paganelli Construction Company was responsible for depositing the gravel and stones into the roadway.

Ebert was charged with multiple vehicle and traffic offenses, said North Castle Police, adding that both Ebert and Paganelli Construction were cooperative during the investigation.
