The bear was sighted in the area of the Hopewell Recreation Park (Route 376), police said.

"Although it is common for bears to be found wandering into rural areas, residents are advised to bring pets and children inside, and be on alert while conducting outdoor activities," East Fishkill Police said. "If a resident observes the bear, please seek shelter and contact this agency to advise us of the bear’s location."

Police remind residents not to attempt to feed the bear.

"It is illegal and can cause human/bear conflicts," police said.
