Mario's Brick Oven Breads in Hopewell Junction has been working its magic for 21 years, thanks to owner Mario Terranova.
During a recent visit, there was a steady flow of customers coming for bread, bread and more bread. Rolls. Olive Loaf.
Bread was flying out the door, and more fresh bread sat on cooling racks in one corner, filling the store with the most amazing scent of (you guessed it) freshly-baked bread.
All of the customers told the same story - "the best."
"The bread is very good, every day," Bob Crane of Hopewell told Daily Voice after making a purchase. "He's been here for 21 years, and it's always fresh, great bread. The only other place like this is Arthur Avenue. Bread, pasta... whatever you're looking for, it's always good."
"We only make bread, and fresh pasta," Terranova said. "People keep coming back because they like the product. Because I bake fresh every day. My oven goes all day long. Hot bread comes out of the oven all day long... And I've been doing this all my life... "
Terranova grew up in Italy, and started making bread when he was 14 years old, before coming to the US at age 22.
"And that's what I wanted to do,"' he said. "I wanted to do bread... So I did bread."
Terranova said the smell is the first thing everyone notices when they visit the store. "They all say - 'ohhh the smell, it smells so good,' " he laughed. "They say everything tastes delicious."
