More than 60 paintings, drawings and photographs will be featured in the exhibition. These works were made by local high school students who participated in the Art Institute of Mill Street Loft’s summer Art Intensive Program.

More than 30 regional high schools are represented through these pieces. This juried show will be on view at the James W. Palmer III Gallery at Vassar College. The art on exhibit was selected by a panel of educators from more than 1,750 works, using criteria of artistic statement, vision and visual acuity, and individual accomplishment.

Art Institute Director Todd Poteet noted that this is the first major exhibition for many of these students. "This exhibition helps to build students' confidence in their art and the power of their artistic voice, as well as validating the work they create. We do not censor the statements the students need to make, but allow them to express the issues that they are confronted with daily,” he said.

"Teen Visions also allows the students to showcase their talents among a group of their peers," Poteet remarked. "This show becomes a positive reflection of their accomplishments in the arts on their resumes and applications to college. This is the first step in their journey to obtaining a professional career in the arts."

There will be an opening reception on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Palmer Gallery, 124 Raymond Ave., Poughkeepsie.

During the exhibit run, the gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., but calling ahead to the Office of Campus Activities, at 845-437-5370, is recommended.
