Update: 17-Year-Old Nabbed In Attempted Armed Robbery Of Screaming Victim In Westchester

An investigation into an attempted armed robbery in Westchester has resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old boy, police announced. 

The attempted robbery happened on Franklin Avenue before the suspect then fled toward the Harbor House apartment building (depicted with a red pin).

The teenager, whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 17 in connection with the incident, which happened in New Rochelle on Wednesday, Oct. 9, New Rochelle Police Captain J. Collins Coyne announced on Thursday, Oct. 24. 

According to Coyne, on the day of the incident at around 7 p.m., the teen approached a 66-year-old woman on foot in the 100 block of Franklin Avenue and showed a silver handgun while demanding her belongings.

The victim then began screaming, prompting the suspect to run from the scene into the nearby Harbor House apartment building property. There, the woman lost sight of him, police said.

The woman was not injured and kept all of her belongings. 

After his arrest, the teen was charged with: 

  • First-degree robbery;
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
